Long-Travel Suspension Conversions

Long-travel suspension is the conversion that transforms a fast factory truck into a race-grade desert truck. Texas Motorworx specializes in long-travel programs for Ford Raptor (Gen 2 and Gen 3), Bronco Raptor, Ram TRX, and Toyota Tundra/Tacoma platforms. A long-travel build replaces the stamped factory upper and lower control arms with billet/tubular pieces that move the upper ball joint outboard, then mounts new King 3.0 race-series coilovers in a relocated upper bracket. The result: 14"–16" of front travel (up from 10"–13" factory) and a chassis that finally lets the wheels work over rough terrain. Most long-travel builds run $30K–$80K and complete in 8 to 14 weeks.

HOW IT WORKS

OUR PROCESS

01

Long-travel readiness audit

Not every truck is a candidate. We start by inspecting the chassis, drivetrain, and intended use to confirm long-travel is the right path.

02

Kit selection & quote

SVC GenX, Camburg KINETIK, Total Chaos — the right kit is platform-specific. Fixed quote and timeline.

03

Teardown & install

Factory uppers, lowers, and shocks come off. New billet/tubular arms, new shocks, new geometry — installed in our 12,000 sqft Farmers Branch facility.

04

Rear-axle calibration

Front travel only solves half the problem. Custom Deaver leaf packs and matched rear bypass shocks let the rear axle keep up with the new front capability.

05

Race-program calibration & delivery

Final shock tuning calibrated against feedback from our SPEC TT/6100 race truck running the Best In the Desert series.

Why long-travel matters

Long-travel changes a truck the way a turbocharger changes an engine.

QUESTIONS

Common Long-Travel Suspension Questions

What is long-travel suspension?
Long-travel suspension replaces a truck's factory stamped control arms with billet or tubular arms that move the upper ball joint outboard, then mounts the shocks in a relocated bracket to gain wheel travel. A factory Gen 3 Raptor has about 13 inches of front travel; an SVC GenX long-travel build can reach nearly 16 inches. The increased travel lets the wheels stay in contact with rough terrain at speed instead of skipping across the surface.
How much does a long-travel suspension conversion cost?
A long-travel suspension conversion at Texas Motorworx typically runs $30,000 to $80,000+ depending on platform, kit, and matched components. The kit alone is $10K–$25K; full installs with King 3.0 race-series coilovers, custom rear leaves, and bypass shocks reach the higher end of that range.
Will long-travel hurt my truck's daily-driver manners?
Properly tuned long-travel actually improves the daily-driver ride compared to a factory truck because the increased travel lets the chassis absorb expansion joints and rough pavement without bottoming the shocks. The trade-off is wider stance — typically 1"–3" wider per side — and the requirement for a 17" minimum wheel.
How long does a long-travel build take?
A long-travel suspension build at TMX runs 8 to 14 weeks from deposit to delivery. Long-travel kits have multi-week lead times — SVC GenX, Camburg KINETIK, and Total Chaos kits are typically built to order. We order the moment the deposit clears.
What platforms do you do long-travel on?
Texas Motorworx does long-travel conversions for Ford Raptor (Gen 2 and Gen 3, including 37 PP and Raptor R), Ford Bronco Raptor, Ram 1500 TRX, Toyota Tundra (07+), and Toyota Tacoma. Each platform takes a different kit — SVC for Gen 3 Raptor, Camburg for Gen 2 Raptor and Tundra, Total Chaos for Tacoma.
